From The Ground Up

We recently received these fantastic images from a very kind lady in Picton, Ontario. In the early 1900s her grandfather, Dennis Courneya, took on a contract with the Canadian Bank of Commerce as a stone mason to build banks across Western Canada. The crew travelled by train and one of the stops was in High River. Construction began in July 1910, and the bank opened for business on 1st Street and 4th Avenue S.W. in April 1911. She wanted to know if the building was still standing. We were so happy to send her some photos of her grandfather’s fine work - still standing 109 years later!
